Research and Knowledge Exchange magazine issue 19

Welcome to the 19th issue of our Research and Knowledge Exchange Magazine, published in summer term 2025 and introduced by our Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Knowledge Exchange), Professor Rusi Jaspal.

____________

Reaching the end of an academic year is always a valuable moment to reflect on our achievements and consider the road ahead. This reflection is especially important now, as we work together to reimagine our university—shaping the future based on our distinctive strengths and our shared ambition to transform lives and make a lasting impact on the world around us.

At the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, we are proud of our research and knowledge exchange activity, which enriches our teaching, drives important partnerships and collaborations, and produces new knowledge and positive societal impact.

Our students—tomorrow’s changemakers—are central to this mission. We actively create opportunities for them to take part in research and knowledge exchange, nurturing their curiosity and entrepreneurial spirit. From attending inaugural lectures to hands-on paid research opportunities, we aim to make research discoveries part of their everyday.

We continue to build momentum through initiatives such as the Health Innovation Hub, which exemplifies our commitment to producing and applying innovative health solutions. You will also see how our work drives improvements in sustainability and social inclusion, from reimagining social housing through nature-first design to enabling visually impaired individuals to access open water swimming. We continue to innovate in ways that benefit the environment, the economy and society as a whole.

Delve into our regular features for highlights from our Early Career and Postgraduate Researcher communities, find out about the remarkable work of the Centre for Design History and the continued success of our Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, which have supported local business innovation for nearly 50 years.

I hope you share my pride in what we have achieved together. None of this would be possible without the dedication of our research teams, professional services colleagues and postgraduate researchers—and their meaningful engagement with students, partners and communities. Thank you for your contribution.

With best wishes,

Professor Rusi Jaspal, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Knowledge Exchange)
